Suggest Treatment For Muscle Strain In Groin Area After A Fall

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I slipped on wet tiles in the bathroom and my feet went in opposite directions and I almost did the splits when I hit the floor. I'd say about 85% split. I was in so much pain in my groin that I couldn't get up for about 15 minutes. I've taken ibuprofen, but the pain in my groin connecting to the inside of my leg is still quite intense. I'm a 49 yr. old female who is not in good physical condition to be doing the splits, I was a very good gymnast until I hit puberty and my body changed along with my center of gravity. No more uneven bars for me!

Brief Answer:
Muscular or ligamentous strain

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

From description , it seems you might developed muscular or ligamentous strain over groin region.

Momentarily try the following measures and see if they can help you
- REST the injured area and avoid doing any activities that causes pain
- ICE COMPRESSION over the painful area once in 2-3 hours.
- Use analgesic anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve to reduce the pain and inflammation.
- Once the severity of pain decreases, Gradual and mild stretching activities of the knee are begun along with Moist heat fomentation of the painful area so as to increase the blood supply to the underlying muscles and also the relax them. Gentle massaging of the painful area with pain killer creams may also help.

If your symptoms are not getting better with the above measures, I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation and management.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care
