Brief Answer:
some persons respond well to treatment

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This is called peyronie disease.

The lump felt is scar/fibroid tissue, it is a plaque of scar tissue. Peyronie disease refers to curvature of the penis associated with an area of fibroid tissue/scar tissue.

The exact cause is not known, has been thought to be related to vitamin e def, use of certain meds, increased level of some chemicals in the body, injury to the blood vessels in the penis.
Exact cause is not known.

In some persons , it goes away on its own.

Surgery is an option but only if person meets certain criteria.
If this is done when you have normal erections then it is not likely to affect your sex life.

There are also medications, in 2013 a drug was approved specifically for this condtion-xiaflex

There are also other medications that have been used eg vitamin e, PABA, colchicine

Normally treatment with medications is started first to see if this helps.

It is possible that you would respond well to the medications and improvement would occur.

A urologist is the person who treats this condition

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
