Brief Answer:
Please give further details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and very specific.

Noted your history of development of a large, egg-size, fairly firm on the left side of the neck above the clavicle.

Yes tumors never develop so fast.

The possible reasons can be:
Hematoma
Aneurysm
Bleeding in the pre-existing cyst
Aerocele from the lung

May I please the following things so that we can discuss further:
- Was there a pre-existing small swelling in this area.
- Is there pain, redness, tenderness?
- Any associated history you would to share to add to my knowledge?

I would advise you the following:
Ultrasonography and FNAC if indicated
Clinical evaluation and examination by a General Surgeon
X-ray of the neck and the chest

This will help in diagnosis.

I hope this answer helps you, please fell free to give me further information, ask further relevant questions if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Brief Answer:
Inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Redness indicates inflammation/infection.
Can be a swollen lymph node.
Sub-mandibular salivary gland - stone in the duct present just at/below the mandible and swelling and pain increases on eating (due to salivation)
