Question: Could you please tell me what arthritis in a knee feels like? I have swelling and pain below and to the left of the kneecap. It's worse when standing or walking a while. The knee has a squishy sound when climbing up or down stairs and the knee also pops when going from sitting to standing.

Knee arthritis has pain on walking and sitting

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using this site. Arthritis of the knee has following symptoms.
1.Pain in knee, especially when sitting on floor, squatting or stairs climbing.
2.Walking is not painful but stiffness is there when patient starts walking. Also if you will stand for long time than you will feel pain.
3.Cracking sound from knee.
4.Pain at night time when you go to sleep, thigh and calf is also painful.
I would recommend you to get x ray of the knee joint. X ray of the knee joint in standing position confirms the diagnosis. it will shows decrease in joint space.
