Question: Dear Doctor,
Almost 7 years back had urethral stricture and kidney stone for which underwent stone removal and stenting. Last 4 months back had severe back pain (left) and diagnosed to ahve 7mm uretric stone. After taking flotral tablet and IV fluid, followed by Lasix injection the stone got flushed out. Also, have 22mm size calcification in left kidney. Now from last 10-15 days again on & off getting slight pain again in left side. Started taking more fludis consciously. Now since two days finding mild burning pain when urinating. also to share during weekend water intake was also less comparative to normal days and was in sun light -may this could be one of the reason.
Now wanted to know what need to be done to avoid recurrence of stones? Food habits? minimum quantity of water intake? any specific food items to reduce the formation / dissolve current stones, if any and any medication? lastly, how long gap would actually required to form the stones again, because just 4 months back stone got flushed out.

I am liitle worried as it can become chronic. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Based on your statement you had stone 6 years back which was removed endoscopically

Was the stone that you have flushed out sent for stone analysis ?

Normally the person who has developed urinary stones has 50% risk of developing stones again compared to normal individual .Basically it is a your abnormal body metabolism that leads to formation of recurrent stone .

However following general measures do help to prevent recurrence of stone
1) Drink 3-4 liters pf water in 24 hours. This will help to produce more urine and flush out micro particles that tend to form stone.
2) Avoid getting urinary infection .This can be achieved by drinkng more water and taking prophylactic antibiotic like Nitrofurantoin as and when necessary .
3) Reduce salt intake Excessive salt causes calcium stone formation .
4) Take Calcium and Oxalate in combined form
5) Avoid red meat and some vegetables like Spinach ,Cabbage ,Tomato etc which care rich in Phytate and tend to precipitate calcium and there by stone formation .
develop .

There is no time frame for recurrence of stone disease .It can form even in month or so .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
