Suggest Treatment For Itchy Scalp And Lesion Near Neck

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Nov 2014
Question: I have itchy scalp, and sometimes back. Occassional pimple like (white head) lesions at hairline above back neck. Bacitracin doesn't seem to help, cortisone cream seems to help. Eventually the bumps dry up. Have tried many different shampoos, and currently have a diary of the shampoos and itch factor. Eliminated Iodine, Vit D, otc preprations with fish, etc, orally. Am most concerned about the itching. Husband says no apparent cause for the itch . . . neuralgia?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of Seborrheic dermatitis; upload Pic

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for posting your query at healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your detailed history. I could gather the following salient points from the history:
You have crusts on scalp;
Also have flakes and itch in the ear canal;
Response to cortisone.

All that seems to suggest either "Seborrheic Dermatitis" Or "Scalp Psoriasis". Both of these are itchy conditions and present as red, itchy, scaly patches.

There is no reason to discontinue Vitamin D as this is not a drug side effect or drug reaction.

-What all shampoos you have tried?
-Can you post a photograph of the scaly patches/crusts, on scalp?
-Do you have itchy scaly patches elsewhere on the body?

Regards
