Suggest Treatment For Itching On The Inner Labia

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: I am a 55 year old woman who has been with the same man for 38 years. For the last 6 months or more I have been dealing with an itchy inner labia at night. About a month ago I realised that the itch was emanating from one area in particular. I then realised that I could feel a hard very itchy spot on the surface and a larger slightly harder area beneath the surface. I have a fleshy vulva due to being very overweight. It drives me mad some nights. Should I be worried or is it just another thing to do with getting old?!

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
thanks for contacting healthcaremagic.

at 55 years i presume you are post menopausal . So it is likely that vaginal dryness per se may be the cause for the same.however if you feel a hard lesion and possibly a growth then it is mandatory for you to have an internal examination done by a gynecologist to evaluate the lesion.there may be a possibility of a vaginal cancer.
it would probably be necessary to take a biopsy of the lesion for histopathology to understand the nature of the solid lesion and confirm diagnosis.
another possibility is vaginal candidiasis which can again be diagnosed by exam.

so please schedule a visit to your physician.
regards.

If it is cancer what would happen? Is vaginal cancer fast growing? Is it indicative of other cancers as I have developed a brown itchy mole on my shoulder too?
By the way, I am post menopausal I think as I had uncontrolled bleeding for a year in 2009 so they fitted a Minerva coil which was recently removed. I bled once but not again.

Brief Answer:
vaginal ca is a possibility..but per speculum req.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
postmenopausal status can be ascertained if you havent had any menses in last 1 year.

i have just raised a possibility that it could be a growth as you mentioned its hard an itchy. So final diagnosis can b based only after a per speculum examination which is important in your case. It would be difficult to comment without it.

so plan an appointment with your physician for the same.
