Question: Hi
I was facing a problem of irregular periods and my doctor had put me on some hormonal balancing medicines. Post which I used to face a problem of spotting. I had stopped that medicine since last 3months and this month I got my period on 14-Sept-2015 and it is still continuing with a heavy bleeding.

today my doctor have recommended me take a medicine called "Tablet trenaxa 500" 3times a day and till bleeding is not stopped.
Wanted to check if this medicine is safe or has any side effects and whether this would create any complications in pregancy later (suppose in 4 to 6months).

Brief Answer:
It can be safely used to stop the excessive bleeding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
From the history it seems that you are having Dysfunctional uterine bleeding. The irregular and heavy bleeding that you are having can be due to uterine fibroids, polyps or hormonal disturbances. For diagnosis, you need to have an ultrasound scan of your lower abdomen and some blood tests.
The management of this condition would require treatment with progesterone to stabilize the endometrium and reduce bleeding along with hemostatic agents like ethamsylate or tranexaemic acid . You have been given Tranexa which contains tranexaemic acid. It will help in stopping bleeding and it has no long term side effects on future pregnancies. You can use it safely for 5-7 days to stop the bleeding.
It can cause mild side effects like headache, hypertension, nausea, pain abdomen, etc for a few days only.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Pause MF can be taken.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Pause MF can also be taken instead of Tranexa. Laboratory assessment of hemoglobin, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, T4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), pregnancy (by βhCG), and androgen profile are needed.
You can take oral contraceptive pills for 2-3 months to regularize the cycles and to ensure there is no excessive bleeding. Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) suppress endometrial development, reestablish predictable bleeding patterns, decrease menstrual flow, and lower the risk of iron deficiency anemia.
Hope my answer is helpful.
