Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Skipped Heartbeat Extreme Tiredness And Erectile Dysfunction

Question: My heart skips beats.....been going on for years......been through tests with no negative result. When this occurs my chest feels "funny" like my heart is doing flops. No pain at all. Just discomfort knowing my heart is skipping beats IE: 4 beats....skip.....6 beats......skip......11 beats......skip......1 beat.....skip.....1 beat.....ship 6 beats....skip......etc. This happens intermittantly but has been doing so for the last two days.......when to work and everything. Also....I seem to be very tired by the end of the day lately where I wasn't before and have started to experience some intermittant ED problems over the course of the last year. This is making me think there may be a vascular problem. A lot of people say their hearts skip beats but their doctors tell them its nothing to worry about, I don't know what action I should take....go to an emergency room for an EKG while it is happening or make an appointment with my primary doctor who may prescribe wearing a heart monitor for 30 days. I am 57 male, type II diabetic......have a liver condition called N.A.S.H and severe sleep apnea which I am on a bi pap machine for the last 10 years for. Any ideas???

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern about frequent ectopic beats, I would like to explain that (after reviewing your medical history), there are some key point to be explored:

First, I would recommend a careful investigation of your extra-systolic arrhythmia. A resting ECG, followed by an ambulatory 24 to 48 hours ECG monitoring, will provide an optimal view of your arrhythmia issue.

After identifying the clinical significance of cardiac arrhythmia, it is necessary to check for the responsible cause.

A cardiac ischemia should be primarily sought (as you are a diabetic individual, with a severe lipid metabolism disorder [N.A.S.H.] and obviously ED problems.

Starting with, an exercise cardiac stress test is helpful to discriminate such ischemia. If suspicions are raised other imagine tests may be performed to visualize vascular lesions (atherosclerotic plaque).

Another field to explore is your severe sleep apnea, which may easily trigger cardiac arrhythmia, when treated insufficiently.

An arterial blood gas analysis will provide clues to support such a hypothesis.

I recommend you to discuss with your attending physician, and check the above mentioned key points.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Feel free to ask me whenever you need!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
