Brief Answer:
biopsy is a very small procedure, do this ASAP

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I can understand the tension you and the family must be going through.
I will try to explain:
The mouth of the Uterus is called cervix.
Cervix is insensitive part of the body hence the symptoms are not felt at all unless there is bleeding or discharge or so.
It is your luck that your Mother went through the Master check up and got this detected.
The wound in the cervix is usually called as an ulcer and one reason is a chronic infection called cervicitis. The other reason is cancer.
By doing a biopsy we will get a definitive diagnosis. This is very important as the age of your Mother is 52 years.
This is a simple procedure of brush biopsy from the ulcer and a punch biopsy from the edge of the ulcer to include a normal and abnormal are. This is a day-care procedure.
This will give you us the most definite diagnosis.
In the meanwhile you should also go for a CT scan of the whole abdomen and other tests your Doctor would suggest.
Get this done at the earliest so that further treatment can be planned.

Wishing your Mother an early diagnosis and the best possible treatment irrespective of the diagnosis. Till the biopsy report is available do not discuss anything with Her.
