Suggest Treatment For Ileocolitis

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: I have IBS and recently had a colonoscopy. There were no polyps. The pathologist wrote: Note: The changes are non-specific, but given the findings in the cecum as well as in the splenic flexure of colon, the possibility of inflammatory bowel disease/Chrohn's, drug reaction and infection are raised. Clinical corelation is suggested. No dysplasia is seen. My gastro doctor says I have ileocolitis. All my bloods are normal.

Brief Answer:
Ask for a second opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It is very common for pathologist to give reports which is a little value and also confusing.
Here is what you should do

1. Go by your doctor's advice and first undergo treatment with antibiotics for the ileocolitis.
2. I usually ask my patient to take the slides and ask for a second opinion from a pathologist of some other hospital
3. A repeat colonoscopy should be done after treatment to see for results

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
