Suggest Treatment For Hyperthyroidism

Question: Hi, I have very recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroid and just picked up the results of the thyroid ultrsound and the nuclear medicine test. I had a previous thyroid ultrasound done 1 1/2 years ago and have compared them. My previous one said that my right lobe was 3.9 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm and my left lobe was 4.1 x 1.5 x 1.1 cm. There is a dominant hetrogeneous dominately hypoechoic nodule in the mid pole of the right lobe measuring 9.0 x 6.0 mm and that there are 2 additional small nodules in the lower role of the right lobe of each measuring about 6 mm and that there is also a dominant hypoechoic nodule in the mid pole of the left lobe measuring about 6 mm. It said that the findings were most likely related to multinodular goiter and it was recommended that I have another study done in 6 months (my Dr never told me to do a follow-up and only now did he do the new tests
due to my blood levels being so out of whack). The current report said that my right lobe is 4.3 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm with a 9 mm well circumscribed homogeneous nodular lower pole and that the left pole now measures 4.3 x 1.2 x 1.5 cm and that the isthmus measures 4.3 x 1.2 x 1.5 cm. It also stated that gland has an overall heterogeneous appearance and the impression said, 9 mm well circumscribed homogeneous nodule lower pole right lobe of the thyroid gland. I appreciate any imput you may have, because I go back to my primary Dr tomorrow and expect to be referred to an Endocrinologist and from what I've been told, it can take months to get a first appointment. My symptons also run the gammer and I just want to know what to expect or any suggsstions you may have for me. Thank you. XXXXXXX in Florida

Brief Answer:
Thyroiditis with nodules

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concerns.
The overall picture of the ultrasound shows features of possible thyroiditis ( inflammation of thyroid) with multinodular goiter. Over a period of time, some the nodules have disappeared and only one is left which is 9 mm and homogenous. This sounds like a benign lesion and dosent need a needle test ( FNA) unless it grows to more than 1 cm in size.

I was wondering if you could attach the ultrasound and nuclear scan reports and the thyroid fuction tests. That will give further insight about your thyroid problem.
Regards
Binu
