post menopausal symptoms....explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing to consult with hcm,
I believe you are in your late menopausal stage where hot flashes tend to get more common due to oestrogen decrease and accompanied problems like osteoporosis ( weakened bones) is again common. There occurs vaginal dryness and itching often due to vaginal atrophy which is again due to oestrogen depletion. Wellbutrin per day for anxiety is fine, but if your concern is hot flashes and decreased osteopenia then you should be on osteocalcium tabs twice daily hence and also if required oestrogen replacement therapy can be opted for in form of low dose estradiol vaginal application cream( 2mg) , which is to be applied just thrice in a week and shall not only to reduce your hot flashes but also maintain vaginal health.
There is a list of oestrogen foods which can be opted for and can be easily procured from a dietician which should be incorporated in your daily diet which shall increase natural oestrogen concentration in the body through food source if you are skeptical on using HRT in form of low dose oestrogen therapy. Also keep yourself well hydrated with 12-15 glasses of water daily.
You should be benefitted by this practice.

I went thru menopause 13 years ago. My last period was 13 years ago. The rapid weight gain has ONLY been in past 4 months. I understand hot flashes. But 13 years after the fact? These symptoms have all been recent, NOT ongoing for 13 years. Why would these symptoms appear now after 13 years? Thank you for any input.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

The symptoms are more likely to appear later in menopause especially osteoporosis and hot flashes , as immediately the oestrogen stores don't go down once menopause occurs, but slowly with time it tends to depreciate to minimal levels where the hot flashes and its frequency tend to be higher IF YOU ARE NOT ON ANY hurt.
Weight gain per se is unrelated to menopause, it can be possibly due to probable decreased thyroid levels or hypothyroidism. Please get your TSH levels done to rule out hypothyroidism or even in cardiac ailments , a generalised water retention can mimic obesity and patient can present with increased weight gain. I suggest you should get a complete blood work, including ECG and hormonal profile done to establish any other likely causes, which may get evident only by an examination and lab work.
