Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: Hello. On Two occasions since October I have noticed some strange results with my iron panel. High iron serum, high calc iron sat, low unsat ibc, and a ferritin level between 14-20 ( normal 10-20). What does this mean?

I also carry two different mutations for Hemochromatosis. Attached my results.

My ferritin is low which I need to raise to help my thyroid meds. My thyroid has been removed.

Brief Answer:
Your iron level is slightly high.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your iron level is slightly high. But your ferritine, hematocrit and hemoglobin levels are normal. So no need to worry.

You have hfe mutation. But its not complete. Most of patients with this kind of mutation have slightly high iron level without any symptoms of hemochromatosis. So no treatment is required at this stage. You should regularly monitor your iron level. No need to worry. Just be relaxed.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

Thank you for the answer. Is it ok to take iron? I have been having dizzy spells and was wondering it could possibly be from my low ferritin.

Brief Answer:
No need of iron.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your dizziness is not due to your low ferritine. Because your hemoglobin level is also normal. So it may be due to some other cause. No need to take iron for that.
