Brief Answer:
This seems to be tinnitus/ auditory hallucinatiions

Detailed Answer:
Hi...By what you quote I feel that your son is having Tinnitus/ Auditory hallucinations.

I will discuss each separately.
Tinnitus - This means a constant ringing sensation in the ears wither unilateral or bilateral. There are many causes for this.

But I am surprised that he is complaining this only at home and nowhere else.

He needs evaluation by an ENT surgeon. But I can assure you that this is not an emergency and not a life threatening condition.

The various condition which can cause this Tinnitus are - ear injuries, circulatory system problems, noise-induced hearing loss, wax build-up in the ear canal, medications harmful to the ear, ear or sinus infections, misaligned jaw joints, head and neck trauma, Ménière's disease, or an abnormal growth of bone of the middle ear.

I suggest you consult an ENT surgeon.

Auditory hallucinations - The other though rare possibility is - auditory hallucination - but extremely rare in this age group. Hallucinations in children are of grave concern to parents and clinicians, but aren’t necessarily a symptom of mental illness. But a word of caution is that - Pediatric schizophrenia (also known as childhood schizophrenia, childhood-onset schizophrenia, and early-onset schizophrenia) is a possibility here. This presents symptoms such as auditory hallucinations.

You need to consult a pediatric clinical psychologist for this

I would like to know what happened further and I request you to keep me posted regarding and further proceedings.
