Suggest Treatment For Headache And Dizziness While On Microgynon

Posted on Thu, 20 Apr 2017
Question: Hi,

For the past 3/4 months I have been taking mircogynon 30, which I took before I got pregnant and then had the mirena after I had my son.

I have slightly been experiencing lightheadness, headaches and dizziness around 1/2 weeks before my period while taking the pill? I'm wondering if I should go back to my gp and ask for a different pill

Brief Answer:
The symptoms will gradually subside.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Lightheadedness, headaches and dizziness are common side effects of such contraceptive pills. These symptoms usually subside gradually in few cycles. Changing to a different pill may be associated with more severe or different side effects. Do try to change the pill only if these are intolerable.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Hi, thank you for answering my questions! I read that it takes in the leaflet that it takes 3 months for your body to adjust back to taking the pill. What concerned me is that I have never really experienced these side effects before however it was a very long time ago that I actually started using this pill!

I won't bother changing the pill, however i am hoping these side effects seem to go away. I know it is the pill causing it because I wasn't getting/having this while I had my mirena

Brief Answer:
Take symptomatic treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
This can be related to the pill but you can take OTC medicines for symptomatic relief and see if it subsides gradually. Taking mild pain killer and antacid can help.
Hope my answer is helpful.
