Question: I fell flat on my back doing a back flip off of a stripper pole at work. I bruised my tailbone and back of my neck. My mild headaches are gone but now I am having head congestion when I sleep and am coughing up white/yellow phlegm. It is also hard to yawn and breathe deeply.

I don't smoke. I feel a little winded, if that's what you mean. I had shooting pains in the left side of my chest but they are mostly gone. I can't afford an exam or x-ray until I go back to work.

You can start following things.
1. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep your self hydrated.
2. Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.
3. Avoid oily and spicy food.
4. Start broad spectrum antibiotic like levofloxacin or Azithromycin.
5. Also take combination of antihistamine and anti inflammatory drugs.
You will mostly improve in 5 days.

I forgot to mention the head and sinus/nasal congestion, but I assume that the antihistamines would address that. As far as "mostly improve", I am assuming I can go back to work but take it easy (no gymnastics or risky pole tricks), but how can I tell if I'm ready to go back to my running (4-7 mile on the trail), serious yoga (inversions), and other heart-rate-taxing activities?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you will improve with all these drugs.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, start these drugs. After 1-2 days of treatment, you will feel lesser cough, phlegm, headache etc.
So you can go to work without doing any risky work.
After 5-7 days of treatment, you will not have cough, phlegm, headache etc. Subjective wellness will be there. You will feel good from inside.
At this moment, you can start your running, yoga and strenuous exercise but in gradual manner. Start with low intensity exercise for lesser time and gradually step up the exercise. Hope I have solved your query.
