Question: Hi, My mother (57 years old) has been suffering from Frozen shoulder in her right hand since past 4 months. The pain is there in the shoulder and is severe in the whole arm and even in the right back side. Sometimes, there is a feeling of stabbing pain in the bones. She has been a patient of arthritis and osteoporosis. She also has diabetes, high pressure and cholesterol and takes medications for these. She had frozen shoulder in her left hand 3 years back and had taken steroid injection which cured the problem. But this time, we have been advised not to go for it, She has fatty lever and takes medication for it. I am attaching her prescription and medical reports for shoulder. She is doing the exercises prescribed by her doctor regularly, but there is no change in pain, resulting in sleepless nights and agony. Please do let me know if there is any cure at all. If yes, what can we do to help her? Thanks.

Brief Answer: Description below. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. I have gone through the reports attached. Frozen shoulder typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve, usually within one or two years. So this is the natural course of the disease. She have to continue exercises prescribed by her doctor regularly because it increases range of motion and decreases further stiffness. Do not worry for pain it will subside gradually. For pain control she can take NSAIDS as prescribed by her doctor.Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care

Hello, Thank you for your reply. She had taken one steroid injection earlier (3 years back) for same frozen shoulder in her left hand. Does this injection have any side effect? Would you advise her to take another this time? Please let me know. Thanks.

Brief Answer: Description below. Detailed Answer: Hi, Local steroid injections may cause some side-effects like Systemic absorption. So care should be taken in diabetics as blood sugar levels may rise. If her blood sugar level is under control and if it is still painful despite of other conservative measures, she can go for steroid injection this time. Wishing her speedy recovery... Regards.
