Suggest Treatment For Frenulum Breve

Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,
I am quite sure I have frenulum breve. I do not wish to undergo circumcision. I have read about frenuloplasty but I am confused if the procedure is performed by a urologist or a plastic surgeon. Also can you suggest an expert doctor in XXXXXXX who I can see for undergoing this procedure?
Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Frenuloplasty is done by both specialists. It's a minor procedure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, let me assure you, that you don't have to worry at all.
You should get the foreskin examined by a doctor first, to confirm the finding.
If the frenulum is causing a bend at the junction of head of penis and shaft, then only treatment is required.
You're right about frenuloplasty being a treatment option.
It's a simple procedure, done at most hospitals, as an o.p.d. operation, by an Urologist or Plastic surgeon.
In XXXXXXX all major hospitals have both specialists.
Hope your doubt is cleared. Wish you well.

Thanks a lot doctor for your reply.
I had earlier consulted a urologist in XXXXXXX when I was barely able to retract my foreskin when erect, but was able to retract while flaccid albeit with significant tightness of the foreskin. He said circumcision was the only option. I researched on the internet and tried stretching for a few months with significant improvement.
Now the condition is : when flaccid, i am able to retract completely. Though at near complete retraction when flaccid (much below the head-shaft junction), the head starts to bend.
However when erect i am not able to retract completely. The foreskin goes down to near the junction but not beyond it. I feel tightness at the frenulum and i guess that is what stopping it from rolling down further, though i also experience slight tightness at the skin.
Am i right in identifying the condition as frenulum breve or could it be something else? What should be the best treatment option?

Brief Answer:
Circumcision is one option.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again. XXXXXXX the foreskin can be re-examined by an Urologist, and only then can he/ she advise, if circumcision is required in your case.
Normally, frenuloplasty is done for the frenular band of tissue, joining foreskin to the penis, causes a significant bend downwards.
Hope your doubt is cleared.
See an Urologist in XXXXXXX FORTIS,or similar hospital for best advice.
Wish you well.

Hi again sir,
Thanks a lot for your advice and patience.
I will surely visit a urologist again. I just have one more doubt.
If my problem is not caused by frenular band but by phimotic ring then can it be resolved by using steroid creams and further stretching (coz the doctor I visited earlier said that using steroid creams lead to infection and hence were not an option). I really want to avoid circumcision as I have read a lot of people's experiences on the internet saying that circumcision substantially reduces sensitivity, ease of arousal and sexual pleasure.
What could be my options?
Thanks & Regards..

Brief Answer:
circumcision is best option in phimosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again. XXXXXXX your Urologist has advised circumcision, probably, because of phimosis then.
In that case, it's the best treatment. Steroid creams are not an option.
You've misconceptions about a circumcision. Many people come to get it done for increasing arousal and for a more sensual experience during intercourse.
There's no uniform opinion about it.
Don't get false impressions from other people's experience.
Cicumcision is also done as a day case surgery by most Urologists.
Wish you well.
