Question: my husband has a piece of meat stuck halfway and can not get it to go down or come up. what do we do? it has been in there since 4pm today. he says he can't swallow and nothing is coming up.

Hello and thanks for the query.

I think he should be evaluated at your local hospital. if a food boils is stuck in the esophagus for as long as this then it may be necessary to manually remove it with a procedure called EGD.

Through an EGD the doctor can insert a tube with a camera into the esophagus and use an instrument to clear the piece of meat.

Unfortunatey there are not digestive enzymes in the esophagus that will dissolve the meat.

Again since it has been a long time Inwould recommend you take him the the ER where they can evaluate him and set up a consult with a gastroenterologist who performs EGD procedures.
