Suggest Treatment For Fever, Upset Stomach, Vomiting And Diarrhea

Question: Wednesday evening (around 5pm) I came home from work with a fever and stomach upset. I began vomiting later that evening (around 7pm) and continued vomiting every 3 hours until the following morning (7am). During this time, I couldn't hold down any liquids. After the vomiting subsided, I had diarrhea and was running to the bathroom every 2 hours. I still had fever and a "full" sensation in my stomach all day and did not eat anything. I was able to sip on water and coconut water in very small amounts. This morning, I feel stronger and do not have a fever but now have a rash on the palms of my hands and tops of my feet. My lips also itch and am itching along my waistline and chest. Is this related to the stomach virus I had?

Brief Answer:
You are having stomach flu or Gastroenteritis.Take anti histaminic allegra.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for asking your query on health care magic!

The problem which your wife is having is called gastroentritis. Gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection marked by diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, nausea or vomiting, and sometimes rashes. The rashes are usually self limiting and usually responds to anti histaminic. However in case the rash does not responds to antihistaminic then go for platelets count test. If platelets is normal then there is no need to worry as rashes will settle down with infection.Release of toxins in body cause mast cell to secrete histamines which are the root cause of rashes and itching.Taking antihistminic will suppress release of histamines hence will relieve itching and rash formation.

Though not asked yet An episode of gastroenteritis takes almost 7 to 10 days to settle down. Electral( Enerzal, Vitcofol, Pyrimo )available over counter should be taken as much as possible to replenish the fluids and electrolytes lost in vomiting. The earlier the electrolytes are replenished, the faster would be recovery.Anti emetic like Peptobismol can be given twice daily along with Nexium to provide symptomatic relief in vomiting and nausea.Take a lot of orange juice, Loperamide can be taken twice daily for few days to stop diarrhea. Take light food and keep your body hydrated. Apart from that there's often no specific medical treatment for viral gastroenteritis. Antibiotics aren't effective against viruses, and overusing them can contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Its self limiting and will settle down by itself in 5 to 7 days.Go for a stool test to ruler out bacterial or protozoal infection.
As per your query yes rashes in skin can be caused by virus involved in gastroenteritis.
Advice
Nexium 40mg once with OTC anti emetic Bismuth subsalicylate Pepto-Bismol twice daily for vomiting.
Loperamide twice daily(on advice of gastroentrologist) to stop motions.
Electral one glass after every vomiting.
Probiotic like VSL#3 should be taken for 7 days to replenish the disturbed G.I flora.
Hope i answered your query well.
Wish you a safe and fast recovery.
Thanks.
