Brief Answer:
Possibly due to viral cause.Irrespective of treatment it may last for 7days

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking once again on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. our son could be suffering from a viral infection and that could be responsible for the loose stools. In case of a viral infection, the fever can last for 5-7 days irrespective of treatment. The loose motions could also continue for the next few days. You would need to be patient. If the baby is otherwise active you need not worry. All you need to do is to continue giving paracetamol from time to time and to continue breast feeding in increased amounts.

In case the child grows lethargic you would need to take the child to a doctor and get him evaluated.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards

Thank you doctor. He is just 3 weeks old hence I am hyperventilating. Thank you so much for the diagnosis. My son is drinking breat milk regularly and passing stools and urine as he normally does. he is a bit sleepy and fussy often crying. I was just wondering what will be done if I take him to hospital? Will he be given an IV or antibiotics doctor?

Brief Answer:
Continue exclusive breast feeding

Detailed Answer:
If the child is entirely breast fed, there is not the slightest cause for worry. All you need to do is to continue breast feeding. If apprehensive you can feel to take him to the hospital but if the child is otherwise active and feeding well, I doubt if it would be necessary. Antibiotics are ineffective in viral infections and therefore should not be given unless blood investigations indicate the presence of a bacterial infection.
