Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,
I am suffering from dry cough due to being exposed in direct air conditioner at work.
Previously when I suffered with bad cough I used to take loxof 500mg antibiotics but now I am a mother of an one year kid who is still on breast milk. Can you please advice if I can take loxof now if not what will be the appropriate medication for me.

Today my dry cough has started and from my past experience I can say it might get really bad and I need to take some antibiotic for recovery purpose.

Brief Answer:
It is safe to take the Loxof.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Any of the medications used in children are safe.

2. Hence a course of antibiotics, anti-allergic medications and cough mixtures are safe to take.

3. You may take a short course of Loxof as your child is more than a year old. You may also avoid breast-feeding or reduce it during treatment.

4. Get a throat swab or sputum examination if your require more than 5 days of antibiotics.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
