Brief Answer:
Avoid specific treatment. Allow it to regenerate.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Looking at your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:

1. It is present since a one year, so i assume it is not related to climate change.

2. Main reason for chapped lips, is using moisturizers or lip guard, which will make the glands in the lip to work less.

3. Using the saliva to rub on the lips with tongue is harmful. It will increase the dryness. As saliva evaporates, it dehydrates further.

4. Only during winter season, you might require moisturizers on lips, other times, you should avoid.

5. Treatment you can try are:
a. Drink plenty of water to be hydrated as dehydration could cause chapped lips.
b. Take multivitamin tablet as vitamin B deficiency is known to cause dryness in angles of mouth and also dry lips.
c. Improve your diet with fish, eggs, and green leafy vegetables.
d. Avoid touching the lips with tongue or applying saliva. Use water to moisturize it. Avoid any sort of lip balms as it is present proving not to be helpful.
e. Lisinopril is a important medication. If your blood pressure is under control, you can discuss with your doctor. But avoid reducing it on your own.
f. Breath through nose.

You have to do all of the above. Also importantly, in the elderly tissue regeneration take time, you do not apply anything, allow it to heal and form completely. It will painful but it will heal. If you do not apply anything, it will slowly heal. Within 15 days, it should be normal.
If you can tell me the treatment modalities tried, i can be probably more helpful.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
