Question: Hello Doctor, my daughter is 4.5 years age. She is generally in good health (height/ weight), playful and good in school activities (mostly written). However, she still finds it difficult to frame sentences and have a meaningful conversation and we are concerned about it. She is picky in selecting friends and in food habits. Being a nuclear family and I being away from home due to office travel, She has kind of hooked on to TV/ internet (cartoons). She usually does her school work with a little of persuasion and help but "conversation" is a concerning part. Will appreciate your advice.

Brief Answer:
spend more time to communicate, consult a speech therapist

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for choosing this platform

Speech and language delay is a very common problem in this age, paricularly in nuclear family or working parents
I would like to know whether she understands the sentences^commands well or not.
Is there any stammering or speech problem.
There are two different things like speech and language delay.
Speech delay occur due to some oral pathology but language delay mainly depends upon environmental factors.
To me it appears more a language delay rather than speech problem.
I request you or other family members to spend
more time in conversation with the child.
Spending more time with TV is also an important cause of language delay.
Allow more to express herself.Read out books/story in front of her.Use more and more words to be used in daily routine to increase her vocabulary.
I hope all these measuresites will help in better language development.
You may also consult a speech therapist for better evaluation.

I shall be glad to help if you have any more queries.
Regards
