Brief Answer:
It can be due to gastroenteritis or UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. The reason for your baby's symptoms can be an episode of viral gastroenteritis episode which is self limiting and very common in this age. Also, a urinary tract infection (UTI) needs to be ruled out as there is crying while urination.

So, you may take the following measures to help him:
1. Keep him well hydrated by regular feeds and oral rehydration therapy such as breast milk, salted curd, rice water, buttermilk, soups, lemonade or ORS.
2. You may start Racecadotril granules thrice daily for reducing the frequency of stools.
3. Start him on a zinc supplement such as Syp ZnD or Zinconia for 2 weeks. It helps in resolving the infection.
4. You may use acetaminophen for fever episodes if they occur.
5. Avoid cow's milk till one year of age because it is hard to digest for infants. NanPro 2 instead of 1 should be given as your baby is already 6 months.
6. Get his urine routine and culture done to rule out any UTI.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care
