Question: Hi. I am a 38 yr old female. I had a major surgical injury last Aug, ureter was burned in removal of my right ovary, later that night it snapped. It was 7 weeks later the injury was caught. I had 5 liters of urine in my abdomen. Nephrostomy tube was started, urine drained from my abdomen and 2 months later a reconstructive surgery was done to reattach the ureter to the bladder.
Since that time I have struggled with health issues seeming to come up and I'm not sure if they are related or not. Either way this May I developed vestibular migraine which I never had at anytime in my life before. Now this November I began bleeding from my bowels, was admitted to hospital where cat scan and colonoscopy was done. The surgeon who did the colonoscopy diagnosed diverticula and said he thought I had di verticulitis. But he was not the gastro I had been given as my own. I was discharged from hospital with no treatment, and that was Nov 24. on Dec 16 I went to see my gastro who told me I did not have diverticula, and the doctor who did my colonoscopy thought I had an infection but at this point it wouldn't be worth treating. I had lost 20 pounds by Dec 16, and was feeling very sick. Instead of giving treatment he sent me home and said he would see me in 2 months. on Dec 23 I went to my family doc and read the operative report that stated I had diverticulitis. We began antibiotics and antifungals, liquid diet and pain killer. Also Began enema foam. I have now had 2 rounds of antibiotics and antifungals and the pain, symptoms don't stop. I have been referred to a new specialist , who did the colonoscopy, but don't see him until march. My bowels are always in pain on the left side, I have diarrhea regularly (daily up to 5 times) sometimes it's bloody. I swell up in my abdomen and the pain can feel like it's burning. is this normal for thus disease? I am so new to this and health problems. until that injury my life was fine. now it feels like a never ending horror story. Help!

Brief Answer:
Reports of tests you did are needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. I advise to culture the feces for pathological bacteria/candida to exclude bowel infections like nosocomial (hospital accuired infections)

2. IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) is also to get excluded. Can you please upload the colonoscopy reports for further evaluations.

3. Can you please upload the reports of other blood tests you might have run so I can evaluate them by myself?

For the moment, I advise to continue the actual treatment with antibiotics, antifungals, liquid diet, pain killer and probiotics.

All the best!

Hi Doctor. Thank you for responding.

I have uploaded the colonoscopy report, I do not have the blood test results. I have also uploaded an image of the pathology of where they did find some inflammation in the colon, otherwise those results were normal. It's why I only took a picture of that portion of the report.

Since I asked you that question nothing has changed. If anything it seems to be getting worse. I've continued on the antibiotics, antifungals, pain killer and probiotics. Now though I find black mucus is coming with the diarrhea.

I hope the information is helpful. How long can one remain on a liquid diet? I try to eat low residue as well as I'm sure it isn't good to go for long period with no food. I don't react well when I eat though.

Brief Answer:
Please follow the suggestions below

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for following up.

From the colonoscoy reports, the data are not specific for inflammatory bowel disease. However, inflammation is still present.

Other causes include:
- viral infection
- anal sex
- citomegalovirus or Ebstein barre virus
- parasitic infections

All the best!
