Question: My Dad has diabetic neuropathy and has lost mobility. THis literally has happened overnight. My Dad keeps falling when trying to stand up due to leg weakness and he is now finding it difficult to stand up from sitting. Will my dad ever get any kind of mobility back? what can I do to help please?

Dads legs are strange he feels weak and he cant get from a sitting to standing position once dad is up in a standing position his legs give way and dad falls. When sat down dad has normal power in legs and can move them freely and do what he wants. Initially it started in left leg but now its in right leg and that feels worse. Is there hope we can improve any mobility and stop dad falling? If so what can we do please?

Brief Answer:
physiotherapy rehabilitation and regular consult with neurologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation your XXXXXXX is in.

Diabetic neuropathy is a severe complication of diabetes.

As his legs weakness is being aggravated, should start immediately physiotherapy as it will help him very very much.

Antianalgesic meds are recommended such as Pregabalin or Gabapentin.

Multivitamins supplements to strengthen body muscle can also be used (e.g. those of B group, etc).

Try to take the situation with less anxiety in order to make right decisions and do the right things to help him. Keep in close contact with his neurologist and physiotherapy specialist.

All the best and God bless.

Brief Answer:
Temporary condition

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

Sorry for the late reply due to my XXXXXXX clinical overload.

I think you all have been caught by panic and you shouldn't.

As your father has been active 6 weeks ago, I think that is a temporary condition.

Please go on with physiotherapy, meds and keep good control of diabetes but should be very determined.

All the best and God bless.
