Question: Hi
My wife is 34yrs age.

She is suffering from Depression and Migraine. Earlier she was consulting a neurologist. After some sessions recently with a pshyco therapist she had visited a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist has prescribed her:
Censpram20mg
venlanz 2.5mg
Luxury 1tab (multivitamins)
Sarotena10mg
Tapoz25mg
Cebergolin 0.2mg once a week (for irregular periods)

On SOS basis the following
Lonazep mdo. 5 (if no sleep.)
Etilaam mdo.5mg (if anxiety)
Naxdom500 (if headache)

She has been doing Yoga since last 2years and has felt considerable change. Also the psycho therapists session and the psychiatrist prescription has helped her.

However I'm curious to know whether all the tablets prescribed are OK and not excessive or having some overlapping functions. Is the prescription OK for her health as she weighs 67kg and height 5ft 2in. Can some of the tablets be reduced?

Is there any better alternative available for her?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Censpram, Venlanz and Sarotena are all anti depressant medicines that cna be used in combination but if she is feeling better now then the dosage can be reduced or one of three -Venlanz can be withdrawn after consulting the treating psychiatrist.
All these medicines do need a careful dosage regulation with respect to the improvement in the clinical symptoms.
Topaz is more commonly used for a bipolar disorder. This will help in stabilizing her mood swings. The medicines given on SOS basis are to reduce the stress and anxiety and can be given as and when required.
Do not reduce any medications without consulting the treating psychiatrist.
The best way is to
1. Practice relaxation exercises like yoga, deep breathing exercises, etc.
2.Do a regular workout or exercise like aerobics.
3. Decrease sugar intake in the diet.
4. Indulge in some interesting hobbies.
5.Listen to music , go to parks or picnics with friends, etc.
These will relax her tension to a large extent and she will find the life interesting.

Brief Answer:
Depression can cause periods problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The irregular periods can be due to the hormonal disturbance caused by depression. As her depression improves, the periods will also become regular. Meanwhile she can take birth control pills to regularize her periods.
The yoga asanas that can help with depression include Bhujanga asana, Uttan asana, Janu sirsasana, etc. She can learn about these asanas from an expert.
Hope my answer is helpful.
