Suggest Treatment For Deep Wound On Head After Injury

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Sep 2015
Question: Hi
I fell down the stairs 31/2 wks ago & have a deep wound on the back of my head that is being treated at a wound clinic. It has been healing ok. The day before yesterday I took a shower at my cottage which has a sharp streaming shower & dressed it as usual. It has been hurting a little all a long but now more. Today I took a shower & looked at it & there seems to be a small white line coming out at the rim. It's darker pink & yesterday it looked like it was bleeding a bit but I dabbed it with gauze & there was nothing in it. Clinic closed. Is this a worry? It was stapled closed poorly by a resident & got infected.

Brief Answer:
Pus may be present in the wound.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of this wound? It will be much easier to give valuable answer.

3 and a half week healing is a very long time for the head wound. So I assume this has not been healing well. Otherwise it would be closed long time ago.
If there is any swelling and pain in the wound area, infection seems to be the case. White line indicates that there might be a pus present in the wound. If so, it should be checked and drained.

This is the best answer I can give without seeing it.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Do you think it would be safe to wait until Tues? I saw the wound Dr on Wed & he said it should be healed by next Wed or the following. He's the head of general surgery at a large hospital near me. It was a deep wound & I can see that it's closing but this white line & soreness worries me.
