Suggest Treatment For Cough And Congestion After Taking Cefuroxime
Question: Hi. Im starting Cefuroxime 500 today. I was on Zpack since monday but fever got worse so doc changed prescription. She said stop Zpack. Only 1 dose left. Is that ok? Should I stop taking protonix for acid reflux bcuz of interraction? I was taking 4000 vit D3, b12 under the tongue, multi vitamin. Ok to take vitamins with Cefuroxime? I have asthma and I am struggling to get well. Coughing and congestion. Thanks

I am sorry to hear that you are having bronchitis and that your initial dosing with zithromax has not been effective. You have now been switched to cefuroxime which does have a slight drug interaction with the protonix you take. The interaction causes the drug levels of cefuroxime to decrease so makes your medication less effective. I would recommend that you stop the protonix while on the antibiotic. Once you finish the antibiotic you may restart the protonix.
You can go ahead an finish the one pill of zithromax to give you full dosing of the antibiotic and may help aid your recovery. You can skip it too. It is up to you to finish or skip the dose. But I recommend taking it because of giving you that much more antibiotic to help your recovery.
It is Okay to take your vitamins with your cefuroxime.
