Suggest Treatment For Constant Vertigo

Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014
Question: I feel like I have constant vertigo! I had blood work twice. First blood work showed I had an off thyroid. They gave me levothyroxine . Then they got the second blood test back and decided I never needed it . I've had migraines and vertigo. I was told to quit the thyroid meds and started taking migraine meds which made my jaw and neck hurt.so I went to the ER and they told me to quit the migraine meds and just take meclizine and I have done that. It's been four days since I quit the levothyroxine and 3 days since the migraine meds. Why am I still dizzy with nauseated? I also had a clear CT.

Brief Answer: My reply is below. Detailed Answer: Hi, Thank you for posting your query. I can understand your discomfort on account of dizziness and lack of a clear cut diagnosis. However, it seems to be not due to serious cause as your CT scan was clear. Also, it does not seem to be related to medication side effects, as the symptoms are persisting despite stopping medications. The most likely cause of vertigo could be peripheral vertigo. You would benefit from taking betahistine tablets. You would also require vestibular rehabilitation/adaptation exercises, which can be taught by a physiotherapist. I hope my reply has helped you. I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
