Suggest Treatment For Colloid Cyst In Brain

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: I just found out I have a colloid cyst in my brains about 7 mm in size. I've not seen a neurosurgeon yet so I'm not sure of exact location. Does this always require surgery or is watching it to see if it goes another option.

I meant to say "...to see if it grows"

Brief Answer:
this is borderline size

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
Such cysts are mostly placed in third brain ventricle.
7mm is actually borderline size if we are talking about indication for surgery.
Other MRI features should be taken into consideration too.
So if there are no symptoms such as black outs, headache or MRI signs of hydrocephalus or obstruction of liquor flow, then conservative management is justified and you should just repeat head scan in 2-3 months. if there are those signs or there is growin gmore than 1mm in these 3 months, then surgery is required. Wish you good health. Regards
