Suggest Treatment For Cold, Chest Infection And Hoarse Voice

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I wonder if you could help me as I really don't know what the best course of action to make. I started off with a cold and ended up with chest infection nearly 4 weeks ago now. Then, 2 weeks later lost my voice and kept on teaching little children (I'm a primary school teacher and also a fitness instructor). 3 weeks later and I still haven't recovered my voice completely. I also feel out of breath. My doctor prescribed penicillin for a week, my chest infection has gone a bit but not my voice. If I keep on talking for more than 5 minutes, my voice squeaks and keeps getting hoarse. I'm desperate for a solution and I am tempted to take a few days off school work and rest. I have warm drinks all day and water. Also what exercise should I be doing as I'm quite a fitness fanatic.
Thank you

You need to give your voice a bit of rest and take steam inhalation.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Health Care magic. Thank you for posting your query.
I can understand your concern.

I have gone through the entire post. What I can make out is that you have had an episode of acute bronchitis (common cold) and acute laryngitis( sore throat and hoarseness of voice).

You have been rightly advised antibiotic to get rid off the infection.

I would suggest you to

- Give your voice a bit of rest . may be for a week or two.
- Take steam inhalation . This will soothe your voice by increasing the blood supply of the vocal cords.
- You can safely do any physical exercise to train the body.

Visit your physician. He/she can examine you and correlate clinically.

Hope this helps.
