Suggest Treatment For Cold And Fever In A Child

Question: My son will be 5 months old on February 1st. He started daycare the end of October and after his first week got his first cold. Since he's had a few more colds and a stomach bug. Well two weeks ago he felt warm so I checked his temperature and it was 101.5 at the highest with a forehead scanning one. It lasted for around 24 hours and then he got a cold. Well a week later this last Sunday he was cranky and still dealing with a bit of a cold so I checked his temperature and it was like 100.5. Took him to minor care because I worry a lot. They did it rectally and it was 100.6. Determined it was a cold and he was fine. Then he had his 4 month appointment the next day and didn't have a fever. Got his shots and then his fever came back which they said can be a side effect of the vaccines. That lasted just over 24 hours and I'm pretty sure it went away unless I didn't get an accurate reading with the forehead scanner. Well then this morning he has a low grade fever again. I got readings from 99 something to 100.8. But he was moving around in his bouncy chair. I'm panicking as I'm worried it's come and gone. He's eating normal, peeing and pooping normal and acting happy. So do I need to be scared? He was just checked on Monday at his appointment in his ears, lungs, etc. I'm giving myself awful anxiety over this.

Brief Answer:
Viral infections are common in children

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query. Let me assure you that there is nothing severe going on and that you need not worry. Viral infections and fevers are common in children and it is likely that your child has one of those from time to time. If the child is active and feeding well, you need not worry. All you need to do is to give acetaminophen or paracetamol if the temperature goes above 100°F.

On one episode his rise in temperature was probably due to the vaccination. But it is normal. Many children get those and it is not a cause for concern.

Let me know if you have some specific query and definitely I will guide you further.
