Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: I had clogged ears for a few months. Well about 5 weeks ago they started draining. I smelled blood in my nose and my nose has been dry. No snot just little sometimes in the morning . Eyes have a lot of pressure in then. Eye doctor said eye pressure was high and eyes are inflamed . Chest been hurting to and been hoarse some. Got on doxey 200 mg a day chest started feeling better but on day 8 of doxey chest is still hurting and ears still feel like they are draining. Nothing comes out but can see little brown on a cutip sometimes. Had sinuses ct few days ago came back normal. Ears have little pain sometimes. What could be causing this and what would help me. Should I be concerned with cancer ?i have bad allergies all my life. Grasses and mold and dust. I stopped Zyrtec month ago. Because nose is so dry. I also sleep with apap machine every night and mask leaks sometimes. Yes np said I had a small hole in left eardrum but was healing up a month back or so. Chest x ray showed mucus in lungs but was normal a month ago.

Teeth and cheeks were hurting more before I started doxey. My joints have been bothering a lot lately.

Brief Answer:
Sinusitis, acid reflux disease and Eustachian tube dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

I have gone through the query thoroughly and understood your problem. I'll try my best to help you with this.

The symptoms described by you seems to be related to sinusitis, Eustachian tube block and acid reflux disease.

Sinusitis could be secondary to nasal allergy. Nasal congestion leads to blockage of the Eustachian tube (the tube connecting nose and the ear). Eustachian tube block leads to pressure inside the middle ear and later, accumulation of fluid.

The chest discomfort is because of acid reflux disease. When the acid from the stomach regurgitates into the throat, it causes inflammation of the mucosa of the esophagus and the stomach. The presence of inflammation in the esophagus causes chest discomfort.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times a day.
3. Use saline nasal spray as frequently as possible. This helps in nasal decongestion and clearing off the secretions. Also, saline keeps the nasal mucosa moist and prevents drying.
4. Try taking proton pump inhibitors and prokinetics to reduce the chest discomfort.
5. Try using steroid nasal spray once a day to reduce the nasal congestion and ear discomfort.
6. Avoid chilled food and beverages, smoking and fizzy drinks.

Do not worry! These are not the signs of any cancer.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.

When I started having the chest pain it started out more on the left side. My back and side would hurt on both sides. I do use smokeless tobacco. Big contributer to the acid reflux. I do take Prilosec every morning. I use to use nasel spray but stopped 5 weeks ago. I use nasel saline spray some during the day. Would this be why my eyes are inflamed from sinus problems. Should I use a Neti pot every day to rinse my sinuses?Should I continue to take zertec ?

Chest pain was on both sides in front of chest and my left side and back. Can acid reflux cause that much pain in them areas. The indomethacin seemed to help when I was on it . Sometimes I have little bit of pain when I breath but mostly just constant dull pain through out the days. Some mornings in the past I would throw up first thing in morning because of the sinus drainage or acid reflux.

Brief Answer: XXXXXXX Neti is one of the best ways to clear sinuses...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

1. Instead of Omeprazole try taking Esomeprazole which is more potent and has less side effects.

2. Use saline nasal spray as frequently as possible. This will reduce the nasal inflammation and burning sensation in the eyes.

3. Please don't use Zyrtec, it will worsen the dryness of the nose.

4. Jalaneti with neti pot is one of the best ways to relieve sinus block. Use 10gm of salt in a glass of 100ml XXXXXXX warm water. Too much of salt will worsen the dryness and cause more irritation.

5. Drink plenty of warm water.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. Wish you good health.
