doctor
Answered by Dr. Abubakar Siddiqh (28 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
acute on chronic sinusitis- needs medications.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that your are having breathlessness. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any cough with productive sputum ?
Is there any difficulty in performing day to day activities ?

Kindly get back to me with details.

As per your clinical details, it appears to be chronic sinusitis causing breathing difficulty.

As such, simple chronic sinusitis (with out complications ) responds with antibiotics and steroidal sprays. But recurrence is common.

Complicated sinusitis (asthma, allergic polyp, fungal sinusitis) should be managed with surgery.

In my opinion, your breathlessness is related to nasal obstruction (sinusitis). I suggest you to re-consult your treating doctor for antibiotic, saline nasal drops and steroid spray medications chart.

Mean time, do steam inhalation, stop otrivin nasal drops (can cause rhinitis medicamentosa- turbinate hypertrophy) and anti allergic medications like tab.citrizine 10mg at bed time.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

doctor

Brief Answer:
otrivin-rhinitis medicamentosa, needs to stop.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Prolonged usage of otrivin nasal drops causes nasal obstruction, head-ache, drying of nasal mucosa and hypertension.

Extra growth, is a deviated nasal septum or turbinate hypertrophy, are primary cause of obstruction for airway and sinus secretions causing sinusitis.

As I have already mentioned, surgery is the permanent solution in correction of bony septum. Medications are temporary relief (recurrence is common).

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
