Question: I am a 60 year old man that recently had a cat-scan of my sinuses due my 6 month complaint of headaches. Seeing some problems, the doctor put me on prednisone for 5 days and ceftin for 14 days. Should surgery be considered if the medicines do not relieve the headaches?

Brief Answer:
Yes. Surgery is necessary in chronic sinusitis secondary to polyp

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Prednisone is indicated in chronic sinusitis secondary to allergic rhino sinusitis or allergic sino- nasal polyposis. It is also used pre operatively to decrease the size of polyp and to reduce bleeding during operation.

Surgery is indicated in resistant allergic sino- nasal polyposis, where polyps causing obstruction of airway and to minimize complications (fungal sinusitis, asthma).
