What Causes Mucus Draining Down The Back Of My Throat Into The Abdomen?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Aug 2016
Question: I have had mucous draining down the back of my throat and into my belly for months. I have been treated with antibiotics, large amounts, to no effect. My chest is congested, my breathing labored, by heart feels burdened and I have an overall sick feeling in my system that is relieved somewhat by a pretty routine runny stool in the AM. This is wearing me out and I can't seem to get anyone to pay attention to is. Blood work shows negative for Mono, Lyme disease, Hepatitis, etc. I think this is something other than sinusitis, and I am fatigued almost all the time.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be Chronic fungal sinusitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concern that you are having mucus secretion from sinuses. I would like to ask you few more details.

Are there any episodes of sneezing, running nose or nasal obstruction ?

Is there any fever or productive sputum ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be chronic fungal sinusitis secondary to allergic rhinitis.

It is quite common that, sinus secretions can invoke lung infections by their infected post nasal drip ( sinus secretions dripping back into throat).

I suggest you to do CT scan of para nasal sinuses, X-Ray chest (PA view) and culture
sensitivity test of nose secretions.

Kindly discuss with your treating doctor about this investigations and go ahead.

In the mean time, do steam inhalation, avoid dust, avoid consumption of chilled products (curd/ice cream).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
