Question: I have a problem with chronic halitosis. I have consulted three different dentists, all of whom say there is no dental problem evident. I brush, teeth, tongue, gums, scrape tongue till its sore. Gargle. Mouth is fresh and clean , then within less than an hour, s sour taste starts in the back of my mouth, at my tongue, and creeps throughout my mouth.

Brief Answer:
Seems like acid reflux..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTH CARE MAGIC..

As per your description, sour taste at the back of tongue along with entire mouth seems to be most probably due to acid reflux or GERD (Gastro-esophageal reflux disease)..

In this condition, acid from stomach reflux back to the upper part of the throat and causes a sour, acidic and foul taste at the back of mouth..

If the acid amount is sufficient, it can even come in mouth and give a bad taste..

Please let me know the answers of the following questions so that I can guide you better..

1.Do you have burning sensation in chest especially after a heavy meal?
2. Do you often have a dry mouth ?
3. Any problems like sinus infection or post nasal drip ?
4. Do you have any medical problems or are you on any medications ?

Brief Answer:
Both acid reflux and sinus drainage can be a cause..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

As per your answers both acid reflux and sinus infection causing drainage can cause bad taste in mouth as well as bad breath..

You should consult an ENT Physician and get evaluated and a proper treatment of the problems can help in resolving the problem..

As of now you can chew sugar free flavoured chewing gum for masking bad taste..
You can also take steam with few drops of Eucalyptus oil in it to refresh your breath..
Keep drinking plenty of water..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
