Question: I have a cough going on 3 weeks
doctor
Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (58 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
get done chest x ray.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
Cough for 3 weeks is known as chronic cough.
And chronic cough needs investigation to rule out pulmonary disease.
So get done
1. chest x ray
2. PFT (pulmonary function test )
Chest x ray is needed to rule out infection.
PFT is needed to rule out bronchitis.
If both of these are normal then you are mostly having upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).
So consult pulmonologist and first diagnose yourself and start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.

when I went to the dr. he listened to my chest and he said it sounded good, he checked my ears, throat, temp. it was all good. I am not coughing any blood up, the mucus is clear.

I can be sitting still and I do not cough for some time. then when I do start
it is for a short time. and I am bringing up phlem.

them it stops.

Something else that I have found. I will go to a casino I can be coughing before I go in. after about 5 min the coughing stops. then when I leave about 5 to 10 min I will start to cough again.

what do you think

the Dr did an xray and my chest was clear.

Brief Answer:
you might be having allergic cough.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for your follow up query.

In my opinion you are having allergic cough mostly.
Since you have cough only outside casino, you might be exposed to allergen from the environment which is causing coughing.
Allergen can be anything like dust or pollen or animal fur etc.
Your chest x ray and respiratory examination is clear. So no need to worry for infection or bronchitis.

For me, you are having allergic cough mostly.

Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
better to start antibiotic and antihistamine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your problem.
In my opinion you are having upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) mostly.
So better to start antibiotic and antihistamine drugs for better symptomatic relief.
Since all these drugs are prescribed medicines, you should discuss with your doctor and start them.
No need to worry much, you will be improved.

I am not wheezing at all. my breathing is clear. he feels it is a viral cough. and that it will go away over time.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry much now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for your follow up question.

And thanks for sharing your details about your visit.

So, you should not worry much for this. Because your chest x ray is normal and clinical examination of respiratory system is also normal.
This suggest cough due to viral etiology.
Viral etiology is usually self limiting. So better to drink plenty of fluids, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day. You will be alright, don't worry.

Hope I have solved your query.
