Suggest Treatment For Chronic Allergies And Post Nasal Drip

default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I have chronic allergies and a horrific viral experience of the holidays that resulted in one half of my mouth breaking out in painful canker sores. As they were not healing I was treated with prednisone and an antibiotic (clindamycin). The left side of my mouth cleared in about 3 weeks and subsequently the right side broke out but at a smaller level and without pain. Fast forward to today (3 months later) the back of my throat feels like I have a hair ball, I have ongoing post nasal drip causing my voice to sound hoarse making it feel like gravel in the back of my throat and one side of throat somewhat sore. I am taking over the counter allergy medications (nasal sprays and Clariton, Allegra D, etc.). Is this simply a chronic condition to be managed or should I see someone? I did have my dentist take a look at my mouth following the canker sore episode and he indicate the tissue looked fine. My Lymph glands do not appear to be swollen although the right side is a bit tender.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be laryngitis.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having change of voice. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any sequence of sneezes with running nose ?
Is there any cough or wheeze ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be laryngitis secondary to allergic sinusitis.

I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon and get detailed ent examination, laryngoscopy (status of voice box and deeper part of throat), nasal endoscopy (sinusitis). depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Mean time do steam inhalations to clear clogged sinus secretions, need absolute voice rest.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
