Suggest Treatment For Chest Cold And Shivering In A Diabetic

Question: My husband has type 2 diabeties he has teated his urine tonight and it was 5. He takes a tablet metaformin. He has a chesty cough and streaming cold and is shivering.I put him to bed. He is 79 years old. could the hgigh sugar be the cause of the shivering?

I am so sorry to hear about what your husband is experiencing. Are you able to take his temperature? Are you able to measure his blood sugar? If you are able to do these, please report the values to me.

It is unlikely to be high sugar. High sugar comes with confusion, profuse and large urine volumes and subsequently dehydration unless he is drinking abundantly. If you are unable to get he above and report to me, I will recommend that you get him to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Thank you for your help, his temperature is now normal and he is taking paracetamol for the cough.
