Suggest Treatment For Cat Bite

Posted on Fri, 16 May 2014
Question: I was bitten by my cat yesterday. I was sleeping and did not clean the bite. When I awoke the back of my hand was hot and swollen. It is much better today (I used anti-biotic ointment, icing and Voltaren). Do I still need to seek medical help?

Brief answer....you should not take it lightly
Detailed answer....
Hello,
You must clean your wound thoroughly because various types of pathogenic bacteria may invade deeper tissues resulting in infections, which can be serious. For the same reason, you do need a course of antibiotics also to avoid flaring of infections.Your swelling of hand could be a infection.
Depending upon the rabies vaccine status of your cat,you may be required to undergo rabies vaccination.
You would also need a booster dose of tetanus injection.
for all the reasons mentioned above, you must consult your doctor.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me or any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
