Suggest Treatment For Calcinosis Build-up In Skin Due To Scleroderma

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: I am having calcinosis buildups on the skin from having scleroderma. I take the blood pressure medicine amlodipine which is a calcium blocker. I would like to now if the calcium that builds up on the skin is the same calcium that is in the blood stream that the amlodipine helps to block? I also take atenolol 50. Is it important that I take another blood pressure medicine? My doctor did prescribe it because of pulmonary high blood pressure.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is the same calcium which is deposited under skin.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right about calcium.
It is the same calcium which is blocked by amodipine and deposit under skin and causing calcinosis.
Atenolol is not only blood pressure lowering drug but it also reduces heart rate and protects heart.
So better to continue with Atenolol.
In my opinion, you should start special drugs for Pulmonary hypertension (PH) like tadalafil, bosentan, ambrisentan etc.
So better to consult pulmonologist for these drugs.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
