Suggest Treatment For Bruising And Itching On Skin After Having Anafranil

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015
Question: 26 years ago had post partum depression which developed OCD. Pure O. Had success with Anafranil but experienced bruising and itching. Tried all SSRIs and now on Wellbutrin and Effexor 75 mgs. Do not want to gain weight and feel tired. Is there anything to augment the side effects of the bruising of Anafranil? Or a good combo meds for PureO?

Can I add L-tryptophan 500 mgs. to what I am taking now?

Brief Answer:
behavior therapy or amisulpride can be combined to SSRIs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome here.

I can understand your concerns.

For bruising due to anafranil, You can try following remedies:
1. Applying cold compresses over bruised area.
2. Take vitamin C supplements daily as this is the building block for collagen.
3. Apply aloe vera gel over bruised area to reduce skin irritation.

I dont think Effexor has been approved for treatment of OCD.

In cases of poor responders of OCD, I usually add low dose antispychotics, specifically Amisulpride (negligible propensity to cause weight gain and sedation) or Risperidone (can cause weight gain) to SSRIs. These show wonderful results. You can discuss about this with your treating psychiatrist.

Behavior therapy from a psychotherapist can be combined with drugs for better results.

L-tryptophan is of doubtful efficacy in OCD. I would not recommend its use in OCD. The doses required are more than 3-4 gms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
