Brief Answer:
This could be a fracture pelvis or head of the femur

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am
I appreciate your concern
Looking at your history this could be due to subcutaneous haematoma (collection of blood below the skin) may be due to fracture of pelvis or head of the right femur which is very common in women during perimenopausal period

perimenopausal osteoporosis or low bone density can lead a fracture very easily following a fall or trivial injury
I would advise to get an X ray of pelvis to rule out the same
if it comes to be normal than you need not to worry this could be due to superficial injury and it will subside with time
Continue with Ice packs
you can take painkiller like ibuprofen for pain relief
complete bed rest
Don't move until fracture rules out
Have calcium and vitamin Do supplements
Take a glass of milk everyday

Hope you will find my response helpful and informative

it could not be compartment syndrome from just falling directly onto my buttocks could it? it was a very hard fall directly onto buttocks. i am able to walk without pain, but my right gluteus feels numb and very hard and swollen. this happened about 3 hours ago and it is completely bruised as well!
thank you!

Brief Answer:
To be on safer side, possibility of fracture to be ruled out first

Detailed Answer:
Hello
this could be a compartment syndrome as well
but possibility of fracture is also there as you had a hard fall and you are near menopause
So its always better to rule out serious conditions first.

Bruise can develop due to subcutaneous bleeding following a trauma
I would like to know is it painful to touch?
Swelling is constant or increasing?

Waiting for your reply
regards

it is painful to touch and swelling is constant. swelling does not seem to be increasing. just painful over bruised area. not painful to walk. does feel numb, but may be due to the swelling?

Brief Answer:
Still I would advise you for an X ray

Detailed Answer:
Hello
do you feel any limb shortening by comparing both the legs simultaneously?
is there any pain or noise on slight twisting of hip?

Still I would advise you for an X ray, you should not take a chance because if fracture is there then it may get complicated even more.

If swelling is unbearable then it may also require drainage and exploration of injury
