Question: Woke up sick on 12/26. Chills body aches and nausea but did not vomit (usually don't) had minor diarrhea no fever . Felt better yesterday and today bit still quesy and a little achy. This morning i found a red tender swelling in right groin area. Went to quick care was tested positive for type b flu tho I did get flu shot. Blood work showed wbc of 2.4 but i have chronic ideopathic neutropenia so thats not unusual for me. NP thought it might be an abcess so put me on an antibiotic. Said if no improvement see my dr after new years. Wanted a second opinion. Thanks

Brief Answer:
I think the treatment was correct.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM,
I think the treatment was correct.
Even with a viral flu infection, if there are swollen glands, there are chances of secondary bacterial infection and it is appropriate to start an anti biotic. I think you will respond. Especially since you have chronic idiopathic neutropenia, the ability of your body to fight infections is impaired. Double reason for antibiotic.

Since you are queasy and achy, please also take an Omeprazole and Tylenol along with the antibiotic.
You can revert back with further queries.

Im sending a pic of the swollen place in my right groin Came up while i had the flu earlier this week (I'd had the shot.) Doc put me on antibiotics 2 days ago and this place is not going down. Its a little tender sometimes and gets red around the spot as the day goes on. My cbc was 2.4. But i have chronicideopathic neutropenia so thats not abnormal. The spot feels kind of like a hard rubber worm. Got appt with GP for tuesday but im so scared aNd upset. Got a family function today and dont even feel like going.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, you can take Ibuprofen with paracetamol (Motrin/Tylenol/Combiflam) along with Omeprazole till you see your doctor.
You can also shave the part, apply Epsom salt mixed with any antibiotic cream and dress.
This will reduce the swelling.
