Question: I first contacted you regarding my mom who was having left chest pain, back pain and constant nausea. she was diagnosed with blood cloths in both lungs with none coming from her legs and put on coumadin, reglan, protonix and norasc. can you tell me why the blood clots, how long she will remain on coumadin, and what caused the nausea? Thanks

Brief Answer:
COUMADIN has to be given at least for 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query.
Isolated Pulmonary embolism I.e clotting inside the lungs without any leg deep vein thrombosis/clotting is usually not common.
Most of these cases are idiopathic I.e without any explainable cause.

COUMADIN in your mother's case will be given at least for 3 months and preferably for the rest of life. The dose of it will be titrated as per the PT INR test targeted in between 2-3 .
Nausea can have many reasons including the drugs, acidity etc. But the treatment in the form of metocloperamide and pantoprazole is being given. Both these drugs will be terminated once nausea is gone.
Ask her to be XXXXXXX rather than bedridden as far as possible.

Best wishes
