Suggest Treatment For Big Bruise On The Forehead Of A Child After An Accident

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Hi. my 1 year old fell from the third rung of a ladder, head first and hit the front of her head. She has a big lump on her forehead above her right eye. She seemed to settle quite quickly after and seems fine now apart from the big bruise on her forehead. Is this something I should see a doctor about? Anything to watch out for?

Brief Answer:
Based on the information, I feel child is fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
Based on the information, i feel there is nothing serious. But an physical examination by the doctor would be better. If possible can you upload the picture of it. It will be helpful.

Apart from that I would aslo like to know few more information. Like
Did your child vomited post this incident?
Had the child lost the consciousness post this incident?
How big is the lump?
Is it hard , is it tender to touch?

Presently I would suggest you to observe.
If the child looks / appears confused or drowsy.
Weakness on inability to move one or both arms or legs, walks with difficulty or clumsiness.
Vomiting, excessive crying,
Or anything about child just doesn’t seem right.

If child has not lost consciousness and is alert and behaving normally after a fall or blow to the head:
Apply an ice pack to the injured area.
Watch your child carefully for the next 24 hours. If any symptoms described above occur, contact your doctor immediately.
It is okay to let your child sleep if he or she is acting appropriately after an injury. Check on your child every 2 or 3 hours during nap or bed time.

Hope this helps
Take care
